Local Honored Heros

Grand Junction Walk Honored Hero:

Dani Gonzales Dani Gonzales was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2004. After being diagnosed, Dani created the “Princess Club” a self-esteem service organization for girls with chronic illnesses. For her efforts reaching out to others with IBD, Dani was awarded the 2005 Local Hero Patient Celebration Award. Dani and her family have also played an integral part in increasing CCFA’s presence on the Colorado Western Slope.


Denver Walk Honored Hero:                                           

Alex Gonzalez

Alex Gonzalez started participating in CCFA’s walks six years ago and has consistently ranked among the event’s top five fundraisers. Alex was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when he was six and has also attended CCFA Camp Oasis for many years. Alex is a 10th grader at Cherokee Trail High School, where he is participating in the
International Baccalaureate Program.

 
Salt Lake City Walk Honored Hero:

Kaylee Kunzler

Kaylee Kunzler was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in January 2007 and attended CCFA Camp Oasis for the first time last summer. Camp changed Kaylee’s attitude about having Crohn’s disease 110%. Kaylee’s counselors and CCFA staff were impressed with her willingness to reach out to other kids with Crohn’s and colitis. Kaylee loves tumbling and plans to try out for the high school cheerleading team next year.

  
Omaha Walk Honored Hero:

Maggie Montoya

From the time she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 10 Maggie Montoya saw the inside of many hospitals. Following her second Ostomy surgery this past winter, Maggie worked independently on her subjects so that she could graduate high school on time and recently enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Maggie was honored with the 2007 Ina Brudnick Award for her inspirational achievements.
