Team Captain Corner
Teams are at the heart of what makes Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis a success! Corporations, families, organizations and school groups build teams in support of those who have been touched by digestive diseases. Team captains make a difference by asking their colleagues, friends, family and acquaintances to participate by joining their team or by making a donation to the cause.
Team captains and co-captains are the volunteer leaders who build excitement and help teams meet their fundraising goals. As a Take Steps team captain, every person you recruit brings us one step closer to finding a cure for digestive diseases.
Steps to Success for team captains and co-captains
Team captains and co-captains are the key to a successful and fun Take Steps Walk. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is thrilled to welcome you as part of our national effort to end digestive diseases.
Below is a Top 10 tips to jumpstart your Take Steps Walk Team!
- Register your team online and take advantage of all of the great fundraising tools found at www.cctakesteps.org.
- Set your fundraising goals (and encourage your team members to surpass them). Your local Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation walk staff will be contacting you to help you set your goals and create your fundraising plan.
- Plan a kick-off meeting or event and invite plenty of attendees. Contact your local CCFA office for help in planning the kick-off. Use food or other incentives to encourage attendees to register for your team!
- Recruit at least nine co-workers, friends, or family members to join you on your Take Steps walk team.
- Share enthusiasm, excitement and success stories along the way! Encourage internal team competitions and offer fun incentives. You can do this with online Web pages, emails, or team wrap around events.
- Keep your team members informed of team progress toward your goals. Offer fundraising motivation and tips. Be sure to provide walk day logistics for team members too!
- Create a team t-shirt, banner or hat to help build team spirit and give your team the recognition it deserves! Have a competition amongst your team members to create the winning design.
- Encourage your team members to submit pledges collected offline to you for submission to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. (Please note: offline pledges will not show up in your online total until received and recorded by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.)
- Ask for help! Your local Crohn’s & Colitis walk staff is here to help make your journey easy!
